A box of 10 natural Japanese candles that burn for 30 minutes each.

We use them as a timer for meditation and other mindful activities, allowing us to keep our devices turned off.

Made from a precious natural Japanese wax called "mokuro", which is pressed from the drupes of the Japanese "haze" tree.

Note: these candles are designed to burn on the brass "shokudai" candle stand that we designed for them. If you're purchasing for the first time, we recommend the starter set.

Made in Shimabara, Nagasaki

Honda Mokuro is wax and candle maker in the seaside town of Shimabara, Nagasaki Prefecture.

Here, they handle every single process of wax and candle making, in-house:

Planting "haze" trees
Harvesting the drupes of the trees
Processing and extracting the natural wax from those drupes
Making traditional Japanese candles.

In addition, they are now the only workshop left in all of Japan that makes "mokuro" wax with the traditional press method, extracting the wax without the use of chemicals.

Although the yield is only half of what it could be if they used chemicals, they do it this way because they believe in the importance of preserving tradition.

Honda Mokuro's candles are special and can't be found anywhere else in Japan. We are honored to collaborate with them to present these original miniature-sized Japanese candles.
