We made this brass "shokudai" candle holder specifically for our mindfulness candles, which burn for 10, 20, and 30 minutes.
The brass is shaped by hand by a craftsman in Niigata prefecture, and the candle stand sits atop a stone plate made of Oya-Ishii, a volcanic rock that has been used in Japan since ancient times for buildings and other materials.
The dish is curved so that any wax that melts down will collect at the bottom of the dish and be burned completely as the candle burns out.
The brass also reflects the candlelight, making it dance beautifully around the room.
Each piece is made by hand, and no two are exactly alike.
The brass will age and discolor with time and use, giving it a wabi-sabi aspect that we appreciate.
The needle can be unscrewed, and the two dishes separated for thorough cleaning if desired.
Absolutely beautiful set! Lovely packaging. They included a handwritten card, which was a lovely touch, along with a mini-photo booklet about the candle-making process & the holder. Looking forward to making time to wind down with my set.
