We made this brass "shokudai" candle holder specifically for our mindfulness candles, which burn for 10, 20, and 30 minutes.
The brass is shaped by hand by a craftsman in Niigata prefecture, and the candle stand sits atop a stone plate made of Oya-Ishii, a volcanic rock that has been used in Japan since ancient times for buildings and other materials.
The dish is curved so that any wax that melts down will collect at the bottom of the dish and be burned completely as the candle burns out.
The brass also reflects the candlelight, making it dance beautifully around the room.
Each piece is made by hand, and no two are exactly alike.
The brass will age and discolor with time and use, giving it a wabi-sabi aspect that we appreciate.
The needle can be unscrewed, and the two dishes separated for thorough cleaning if desired.
I love the set. The craftsmanship is exquisite and the candles are so distinct. I have just finished my meditation with the use of the 10-minute candle. Will definite restock.

Have been enjoying the mindfulness candles which added nicely to the incense and bell. I will probably try the essential oils next but a Big Surprise was the daruma dolls for making goals for the New Year plus great presents to my 3 children

I’m genuinely impressed with these meditation candles. They’re a wonderfully simple and low-tech way to mark time during practice, and the gentle flicker of the flame creates a sense of spaciousness that really supports settling in.
The owners are incredibly attentive and responsive — it’s obvious how much care they put into every part of their work. The incense is also excellent: very subtle, not overwhelming, and thoughtfully designed with a little guide that shows how to break it into time increments for timed meditation.
The packaging is beautiful and minimalist, and everything feels intentional and calming from the moment you open the box. I’ll definitely be giving these to the meditators I know and love.

I love these meditation candles and the brass candle holder/stand. Not only are the candles beautiful to watch burn (perfect for a gazing meditation), they burn neatly and cleanly. And the craftsmanship and history behind them is beautiful as well. I am enjoying using these candles as my meditation ‘timer’. I would highly recommend them.
