No screens. No buzzes. Just the quiet rhythm of flame.

Daily meditators:

Do you use a device to time your meditation?

Hi, we’re Chris and Misaki, creators of Shi-Zen, an online shop offering items for meditation based out of Zushi, Japan.

We wanted a simple, device-free way to keep track of time during mindful moments, so we created these:

Miniature "warosoku" Japanese candles that burn for exactly 10, 20, or 30 minutes.

They're designed to deepen your presence in the moment

so you can free yourself from the distractions lurking on your phone.

See our video explanation here:

Made with rare traditional "mokuro" wax from Nagasaki

We worked with a family-run wax maker called Honda Mokuro to design and make these candles.

They are are the last wax maker in Japan that produces this natural wax without using any chemicals.

They harvest sumac berries from their own trees and press the waxy husks in a steam-heated cauldron to extract pure wax.

They are now the only workshop in Japan carrying on this tradition, making these candles very precious.

For your most precious time of the day, doesn't it make sense to use the most precious wax?
