Why we chose these oils

Aomori Hiba

We originally wanted to sell hinoki cypress oil, since that is one of our favorite Japanese scents.

But alas, hinoki oil has a low flashpoint and can't be shipped overseas. 

However, Misaki did some research and found a cousin of hinoki called hiba (another type of cypress from Aomori prefecture).

Aomori hiba has a very high flash point and is therefore allowed to be shipped on an airplane.

While hinoki has a lighter scent, hiba is deeper, and makes you feel like you're in the middle of a dense Japanese forest.

Wahakka Japanese Mint

Another oil that we fell in love with the first time we encountered it is wahakka.

In particular this specific strain of wahakka, called JM23, is grown in only one place in the world (Takinoue, Hokkaido).

It has a very high menthol content, yet smells very sweet. This makes it different from the peppermint found in the west.

It is powerful yet soothing, and creates a lovely ambiance.

Luckily, wahakka has a high flash point and is able to be shipped via airplane.
